Can someone give me a checklist for setting up a 10g aquarium?
First thing you need to do is get the the tank set up with gravel, filter, hood with light and heater. If you have city water Use a product called AquaSafe in your tap water. It will neutralize the chlorine , chloramines and heavy metals that are dangerous to fish. If you have well water, your water is safe. Establish your tank before adding fish you want to live. This tanks aprox 6-8 weeks. To do this , run your filter during this time and add a few flakes of food daily. You can also put a couple cheap fish in it, to help it establish faster. But dont count on them living once your tanks spikes. Do 25% water changes weekly and test for PH, nitrates, nitrites, hardness, and alkalinity weekly too. You can buy a 5-n-1 Test kit at Walmarts or petsmart. Follow directions and once you aquarium shows it is safe in all 5 areas your tank is ready for fish. Make sure to do a weekly 25% water change every week to keep your levels right. Also continue to check water quality weekly. Good Luck and have fun
