I just adopted a young hamster, but all it wants to do is sleep? and it acts really strange when it is awake?

Not sure... it might just be that's the way he is. You could try introducing him to some other hamsters and see if he learns to play with them. Does he like treats? Maybe if you hide treats in different places around the cages he would start moving around and exploring. I have had a few different dogs. The last one was hyperactive and never sat still. This one sleeps a lot. Sometimes that can be genetic.
