My daughter got fired?

She was told it was because she didnt fit what they were looking for (after a year and a half) and that they wouldnt fight it if she tried to get unemployment..well the company gave a different story to the unemployment office and she was denied benefits..she contacted the exboss who told her that she would "straighten out the situation" but she was really just trying to appease my daughter I guess....well really my question is if you are on warning for attendance and you miss work with a doctors excuse can you still be denied benefits?
