Is there something wrong with my EV training method for Pokemon White?

I just caught a Deino and straight away, I went to Celestial Tower to Ev train for Sp.Atk. I gave it a Macho Brace to hold, which I read doubled the EV points gained. I must've battled like at least 20 Litwicks so far, each giving 1 EV, but with the Macho Brace 2, but my Deino's Sp.Atk only raised by 3 so far, and I read that every 4 EV raises a stat by 1. Is there something wrong with what I'm doing or something, because I can't figure it out. I also heal my Deino constantly by talking to the nurse in the tower. Does healing your Pokemon reset its EV?
