My pc screen goes blank three times in rapid succession every time it has just finished booting. What is wrong

My laptop has started acting funny. Every time I switch it on and it has just finished loading the screen goes blank three times in rapid succession before it stabilises again. I have tried system restore to an earlier point but it is not succeding. Seems like there is a bug or something. How can I fix this problem?
