Does this job sound like a scam? from craigslist?

As long as you are not sending personal info or money it can't hurt to inquire about the position. Meet in person and on site and see the workplace before you divulge ANY personal information. Don't be afraid to research the optometrists' practice on line and with neighbors (how long they have been at that location, etc, etc...) to verify their legitimacy.
