I'm both a woodworker and avid amateur arborist. I got to day dreaming about the idea of buying a few acres of southern Michigan agricultural land and planting black walnut saplings. I don't know that I'd live long enough to see them harvested, but my children probably would. If the plantation were properly managed to produce veneer-quality wood, what would be the (ballpark) value of the timber in today's market (per acre)? uming 30-40 year old trees, and maybe 100-150 per acre.
